Those hand painted boxes are made of Limoges Porcelain ; this production
started on about 1750 when "kaolin" was discovered in Limoges. The way
they are produced currently is very similar to the one of this period, that is
to say that the white porcelain box, then its setting and its painting are hand
made. The white porcelain is fired at 1 400°C. The decorations are made with
brushes and colors
for porcelain and are fired at about 850°C.
The firing of
the "decor" on porcelain can be multiple if there are many different
colors.
Many traditional or symbolic themes have been evoked in the past :
flowers,
portraits, love... Other modern themes have been added , i.e. Christmas,
Halloween, the everyday life, etc.
